June 14, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Texas State Representative Debbie Riddle (R-Tomball) was installed as Chair of the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) by Congressman Ted Poe (R-Texas) in Washington, DC last week.

Iowa State Senator and NFWL Chair-Elect Swati Dandekar, former Idaho State Representative Ann Rydalch and Robin Read, President & CEO of NFWL, were in attendance at the special ceremony led by Congressman Poe to formally install Riddle as the Foundation's new Chair. Riddle was chosen by women elected officials nationwide to serve in NFWL's highest elected office.

"I am honored that the members of NFWL have asked me to serve as their leader for this next year and thrilled to have the opportunity to have all of this happen right here at the US Capitol with my friend Congressman Poe." said Riddle.

Riddle has served in the Texas State Legislature since 2002. She presently serves as the Committee Budget Officer of the Criminal Jurisprudence committee and is also a member of the Appropriations Committee, the Committee on House Administration, and the Joint Select Committee on the Operation and Management of the Texas Youth Commission. Riddle has been an active member of NFWL during her time in the legislature and most recently traveled to Iraq on behalf of NFWL to monitor the national elections.

"Our women legislators are so proud of Representative Riddle and all that she has accomplished. We are looking forward to her leadership in the Foundation and I know that she is going to make the next year one of the most exciting and productive years that NFWL has seen yet," stated Read. "We are honored that Congressman Poe was able to be with us during the ceremony in support of Representative Riddle and NFWL."
