Resolution Applauding Committee Efforts to Combat Injustice

Resolution of the Crime, Justice, Terrorism, & Substance Abuse Policy Committee
Title: Commending members of NFWL's select Task Force on the Greg Shideler case for their successful efforts to combat injustice in Arizona
WHEREAS, the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) has formed a National Policy Committee on Crime, Justice, Terrorism, and Substance Abuse to find effective solutions to these important public policy issues; and
WHEREAS, members of the National Foundation for Women Legislators' (NFWL) Policy Committee on Crime, Justice, Terrorism, and Substance Abuse have been receiving requests from their constituents to look into localized matters that focus on injustices within the state's judicial system; and
WHEREAS, Arizona State Senator Linda Gray and legendary performer Pat Boone asked members of this Committee to look into the details of the imprisonment of Greg Shideler in Arizona; and
WHEREAS, members of this Committee formed a special Task Force to investigated Greg Shideler's imprisonment and came to the conclusion that he was wrongfully convicted; and
WHEREAS, the members of this Task Force petitioned for Greg's immediate release; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the Task Force's work on this issue, Greg Shideler's release has been announced and will take place on March 21, 2005, nine months earlier than the original release date; NOW
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the NFWL's Crime, Justice, Terrorism, and Substance Abuse Policy Committee commends the members of this special Task Force on the Greg Shideler case for investigating injustices within Arizona's judicial system, allowing for the successful release of Greg Shideler from prison.
