Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward

New York State Director

Teresa R. Sayward, is a lifelong resident of the Adirondack North Country. She was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2002, to represent the 113th Assembly District, which includes Essex County (except St. Armand), Hamilton County, Warren County and six towns in Saratoga County (Corinth, Day, Edinburg, Hadley, Moreau and Providence).

Teresa and her husband, Kenneth, have four children and ten grandchildren. In addition to the large dairy farm they owned and operated for twenty years in Willsboro, Teresa has held a New York state Realtor's License; worked in sales at a local antiques store; worked as an interior decorator; and served as chairwoman of Willsboro's Zoning Board of Appeals for eight years. She is an avid gardener growing culinary and medicinal herbs. She enjoys art and golf.

Until her election to the New York State Assembly, Teresa R. Sayward held the position of Willsboro Town Supervisor for eleven years. She also served on the Board of Supervisors for Essex County for eleven years and as Chair of the Essex County Board of Supervisors for two years. Other board positions held include: Chair of the Economic Development and Planning and Publicity Committee, Chair of Human Services; and Chair of the Finance Committee. Teresa Sayward also served as Chair of the Essex County Board of Supervisor's Legislative Committee and in that role served as the lobbyist in Albany for Essex County.

Teresa served as Chair of the Inter-Governmental Affairs Committee at New York State Association of Counties and as Chair of the North Country Advisory Council for the New York State Division for Women. The North Country Advisory Council represents and covers seven North Country counties.

Ms. Sayward served as a director on the Adirondack Association of Towns and Villages; as a director on the Plattsburgh North Country Regional Chamber of Commerce; and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Smith House Health Care Center. Her other public service includes serving on the Board of Directors for Cornell Cooperative Extension; the Essex County Soil and Water Conservation District; and the Adirondack North Country Association.

The Assemblywoman currently serves as a member of the Corporation of the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Medical Center and on the Board of Directors of the Willsboro Development Corporation and on the Adirondack Girl Scouts Advisory Council.

Ms. Sayward was honored as the Adirondack Park Local Government Review Board's "Outstanding Elected Official" for 2002.

Ms. Sayward serves as the Secretary of the Assembly's Minority Conference and as the ranking Minority member on the Environmental Conservation Committee. She also serves on the Standing Committees of Education; Corrections; and Children and Families. Assemblywoman Sayward serves as the Vice-Chair of the Assembly Minority Small Business Task Force. She also serves on the Assembly Minority Task Force on the State of New York Agriculture; the Assembly Minority Task Force on Hunting and Fishing; the Legislative Commission on Dairy; the Legislative Commission on Solid Waste; and the Assembly Minority Exploratory Commission on Alleviating the Burden of School Property Tax.
